Job Description: Part-Time Office Administrator

Just Economics of Western North Carolina (JE) is a regional, membership organization based in Asheville, NC. Our mission is to educate, advocate, and organize for a just and sustainable economy that works for all in Western North Carolina. JE was born out of the Asheville-Buncombe Living Wage Campaign, an effort that began in 2000, but took root in 2006. Since passing the first living wage ordinance in our region, our work has grown to include policy advocacy, grassroots community engagement, and employer certification. Just Economics is an economic justice advocacy organization, and our work includes fighting for living wages, affordable housing and better transit, along with other related issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

Maintain Database: The office administrator would be responsible for entering donations, preparing thank you letters to donors, pulling database reports, and associated record keeping.

Manage day to day financials: This position would be responsible for maintaining the bills and accounts receivable, providing expense reports for our bookkeeper, preparing bank deposits, and managing credit card purchases.

Maintain financial requirements: Create monthly financial reports for the bookkeeper as well as our board of directors. Maintain organizational compliance in regards to insurance information and  financial reporting needs including the organization’s 990, financial review, and Charitable Solicitation License. 

Manage office activities: Track and purchase office supplies, direct emails and phone calls to appropriate staff, help keep physical space and files organized, and communicate with members as needed.

Support staff with fundraising: Track grant deadlines and support fundraising activities

Support the program staff: Support the staff as needed with scheduling, phone calls, note taking, or other activities that help move the work of Just Economics forward.

General JE Staff:  Work as part of a team dedicated to building a sustainable local economy.

Professional Development: Continue to build professional skills that will assist JE and help create a team skilled in working toward our mission.

Desired skills and experiences:

– Highly organized, flexible and ability to prioritize tasks

– Commitment to the mission of Just Economics 

– Experience with databases

– Proficiency in the development and use of spreadsheets 

– Proficiency with a variety of software applications including microsoft office suite and google drive applications

– Experience working with budgets

– Note taking skills

– Ability to work as part of a team

Supervision:  The Office Administrator reports to and is supervised by the Executive Director, who conducts annual evaluations and routine check-ins.  

Compensation and Benefits:  The expectation is that the office administrator will work an average of 20 hours a week at $17.50/hr. This job also offers a flexible schedule and generous paid time off.
