Just Economics has a lot to celebrate this year and we are looking forward to a couple of events and activities that will help us to do just that!
In 2023 we worked to develop the Centralized Rental Application, our affiliate in Transylvania County successfully advocated for a paid parental leave policy in Brevard, and we launched the Tenant’s Network! Of course, we also continued our regular business of certifying more employers paying a living wage, building capacity with people impacted by the problems through our Voices for Economic Justice program and continued advocating for living wages, improved working conditions, affordable housing and better transit.
We are looking forward to several events and opportunities to celebrate our victories together including International Living Wage Week and the Just Economics’ Annual Celebration.
Of course this season of celebration also involves a look ahead, and we need your help in supporting the continuation of this work into 2024 and beyond. There are many ways to financially support this work….You can make a donation here, you can mail a check to Just Economics, PO Box 2396, Asheville, NC 28802, you can donate through Give Local!, you can buy a raffle ticket in Transylvania County or in Buncombe County, or you can bring a donation to an event.
Supporting our work can also mean showing up alongside us for events, advocacy, planning meetings and more. Our membership and the individuals impacted by economic justice help to shape our work and we couldn’t continue this work without you! Stay tuned for the following events and activities:
- Bimonthly General Meeting–October 24th, 6:30-8pm -Join us in person at the United Way (50 S. French Broad) where we will have food, or virtually over zoom at this link.
- INTERNATIONAL LIVING WAGE WEEK November 6th-10th –Stay tuned for more information about events (including an employer networking event in Asheville and a raffle in Transylvania County) and how you can demonstrate your participation in the movement all week.
- JUST ECONOMICS’ ANNUAL CELEBRATION December 7th, 6-9pm at the Habitat for Humanity celebration room (33 Meadow Road, Asheville, NC 28803). As always, this is a great time to celebrate the work of Just Economics and mingle with others who care about economic justice. If you have never been before this FREE event is open to everyone and includes dinner, music, a raffle, and celebration!
